HISTORY

<< Arkansas: Hugh Chalmers
Hugh Chalmers from West Memphis, Arkansas, was introduced early in his life to the auto industry through a unique association. His father, Hugh Chalmers from Earle, Arkansas, in the 1920's, established correspondences late in his life with the founder of the Chalmers-Detroit carmaker Hugh Chalmers from Detroit, Michigan. Hugh Chalmers in Detroit made automobiles under the name Chalmers-Detroit by Chalmers Motor Company in Detroit. The two men, with the same first and last name, sought to share their ancestral history. In later years, these memories inspired the naming of the son's company.

The Chalmers Motors Company, founded in West Memphis, Arkansas, went on to handle several name brands. Desoto, Plymouth, Jeep, Nash, Studebaker, Buick, GMC Truck, Opel, Toyota, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Delorean while offering a verity of quality pre-owned automobiles and products.  The family name, Hugh Chalmers, has been handed down fourth generation, and the company is in its third generation.  The business has been operational for over fifty years since its founding in 1946.
